Fireblocks, the institutional digital asset infrastructure company that underpins more than $6 trillion in annual crypto transactions, launched a new product called Earn on Wednesday, providing institutional investors with native access to decentralized lending protocols without requiring them to directly manage private keys or navigate complex blockchain interfaces.
The product is powered by Morpho's universal lending network and initially offers curated institutional lending strategies including exposure to strategies from major asset managers. Earn abstracts the technical complexity of DeFi—smart contract interactions, gas fee management, liquidation monitoring—behind a familiar institutional interface that integrates with existing Fireblocks custody and compliance workflows.
Bridging TradFi and DeFi
The Fireblocks Earn launch represents one of the most significant steps yet in the convergence of traditional finance infrastructure and decentralized finance protocols. Rather than building bespoke DeFi operations teams, institutions can now access onchain yield through the same platform they use for custody, trading, and compliance—dramatically reducing the operational barrier to DeFi participation.
'The demand from our institutional clients for onchain yield has been extraordinary, but the operational complexity has been a major obstacle,' said Fireblocks CEO Michael Shaulov. 'Earn eliminates that friction and gives banks, hedge funds, and asset managers the ability to access DeFi yields with the security and compliance controls they require.'
Morpho's Infrastructure Play
Morpho, the decentralized lending protocol selected to power Earn, has emerged as one of the most significant infrastructure layers in the DeFi ecosystem, with approximately $4.2 billion in total value locked. The protocol's permissioned markets allow institutional-grade credit standards to be applied onchain while maintaining the transparency and composability that make DeFi attractive relative to traditional credit markets.
The Morpho-Fireblocks integration is the latest sign that decentralized finance is moving beyond its retail crypto-native origins toward a genuine institutional asset class. Earlier this year, BlackRock's BUIDL fund became one of the first tokenized Treasury products available through Morpho's lending markets, enabling institutional borrowers to use real-world assets as collateral for onchain loans.
