The BSV Association, the Switzerland-based organization overseeing the BSV blockchain ecosystem, announced Thursday a strategic integration with Onramp Money, a non-custodial fiat gateway that enables users to convert local currency into digital assets and back without relying on centralized exchanges. The partnership effectively opens BSV blockchain payment infrastructure to retail users and merchants across three of the world's fastest-growing digital economy regions: Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America — collectively home to more than 3.5 billion people and accounting for the majority of global mobile payment growth.
BSV Association CEO Christen Ager-Hanssen said the Onramp Money integration directly addresses the 'last mile' problem in blockchain payment adoption: the friction of converting between local currencies and digital assets. By providing a seamless fiat on-ramp and off-ramp through Onramp Money's network of licensed payment partners in each target region, BSV can now function as a practical payment rail for everyday commerce — not just as a speculative digital asset held on exchanges.
Technical Advantages of BSV for Payments
BSV — which emerged from the Bitcoin Cash hard fork in 2018 and subsequently forked from Bitcoin Cash in its own right — is designed around the original Bitcoin white paper's vision of a peer-to-peer electronic cash system capable of massive scale. The network currently processes approximately 5,000 transactions per second at fees averaging $0.00001, making it technically competitive with traditional payment networks for high-frequency, low-value retail payments in markets where banking infrastructure is limited.
Onramp Money's integration supports BSV transactions in 35 countries across the three target regions, with additional markets targeted for inclusion by Q3 2026. The platform supports local payment methods including mobile money wallets, bank transfers, and cash-in/cash-out agent networks, lowering the technical barrier for users without access to credit cards or international banking services.
Context: Global Digital Payment Landscape
The BSV expansion reflects intensifying competition among blockchain networks to capture payment market share in the developing world, where traditional financial exclusion creates natural demand for alternative payment infrastructure. Stellar, Ripple/XRP, and algorithmically stable
